Sugar is in almost anything we eat. Whether it is bread, pasta, rice, fruits, they all contain sugar. The body breaks down the sugar we eat to glucose so it can go into our cells and give us energy. The glucose is the number one source of energy the body uses. So why is sugar so bad for us? why do we crave sugar?
Most of sugar that we consume comes from processed food like white flower, while rice, cakes, and other snacks. This kind of sugar just spikes up our blood sugar and make our pancreas work hard to remove the excess sugar from the blood to our cells. Refined sugars have no health benefits, they are empty calories that only makes us gain weight.
Sugar that comes from whole wheat whole grain bread, brown rice, quinoa, fruits and vegetables has fiber in it, vitamins and minerals, it does not make the sugar go up very fast, and it makes us feel fuller for a longer time.
Sugar is addictive, and excess sugar in our body can create weight gain, infections that can turn up to be chronic diseases like diabetes, can cause auto immune diseases, candida, and can even cause cancer. In fact, cancer cells feed over sugar.
It is ok to eat sugar, but you need to eat the right kind. Fresh fruits and vegetables are great, wholewheat whole grain bread instead of white bread, bagel, or baguette. Organic brown rice and organic quinoa are also great sources of healthy sugar we can have in moderation.
